these days, these days

nights of supernintendo and shark bites, of high tension grapes and stilettos and a backyard garden path and smoke in swirls and moonlight and a camera panning out on girls in high heels and low cut shirts, mini skirts and smiles, of boys with scruffy hair and warm wandering hands and

life's been pretty good. i spent days with a clamped jaw and a swirl of nights. four or five allnighters, i've gotten so much done. it's a mess and a blur and so much was missed and so much was done and words are repeating and some faces become much too familiar and we paddled into the middle of a lake and watched fireworks and were suddenly back in the kitchen dancing and holding hips and making macaroni and cheese at five am on new years, dancing and making top five us moments and well we all have to get on planes everyone now and then and everything's just flying forward; and in another year i'll be in another different place, and. really. i love this and i love everything's that happened and oh, i can't wait to be there, but to leave the sand and sun and shine, to slim and slip and slink into new places, we'll see we'll see oh oh we will see;;

and then there are these nights sitting around a big table laughing and talking and crying cause i love big, i laugh til i'm in tears, fastforward and we're driving through coral gables and everything is architecture and glass and white christmas lights and white washed buildings and street lights and we're climbing up the escalator and my stomach drops and we're spinning into someone's garden and puddle splashing and sinking deep into someone's couch full of pillows and we're dealing out our lives in decks of cards and the promise of mango juice and stars when we go outsid til the car fills up with music and my eyes float into deep space and sweep over the white and yellow streetlines til nothing can hold me back and everything's just sailing.

the days when we sit on the kitchen counters and talk and take adventures into the night sky when shoes sink into mud and hands keep warm and stories sing in the air and we're decked out talking about good times two thousand and four, twenty people on a pool side chaise laughing and remembering, living in laughter and the promises of tomorrow we see in our own transient skin. the days when eyes are full of sleep looking at the ocean, it's been so long since i've seen the ocean he sings to me, and i look out and think of him and he covers me in blankets and we drown cafe con leche and dance out on the wooden planks, i climb and climb til i'm at the very highest point and lay back til the greedy night steals the sky and spills it's stolen diamonds onto the very same pavement i lay across, blurring bodies with yellow lines and running over the very idea of existance-- looking up at the sky and pulling the hoodie over my head closer because the wind presses itself right to my ear, listening to each other breathe until the wind picks me up and i float down the creek and the sun finds its place and they find me fallen fast asleep on the deck of the boat with my shoes on.
